This a very economical way to get into shooting air pistol. Olympic caliber AP go for thousands of dollars. Additionally, you won’t need a scuba tank or air pump for this pistol. Just one pump delivers very accurate shots. The only complaint is that your arms do tire after shooting normal NRA 10m air pistol shots. Thanks

The Good: the Gamo Compact shoots straight and handles pretty well for a pistol of this price range. The sights are good and the trigger is nice. The balance is perfect for me. If you’re coming from shooting regular firearms like a Glock or a Sig, the difference in ergonomic is miles apart.

    The Bad:

The the trigger take-up adjustment doesn’t work (screw too short) yet Gamo hasn’t fixed the design flaw but still advertise the feature.

The pistol is plastic. Now firearm makers like Glock have used polymers extensively in their guns without problems. Firearm polymers are designed to handle tremendous shock and pressure and the Glock has proven to be extremely durable and reliable. The Gamo compact on the other hand is made of CHEAP plastics. The two that I had has cracks in the frame and one has a broken spring post (trigger spring) after less than a 100 shots. I returned both guns.

Admittedly, the two that I bought were from the same batch with consecutive serial numbers. It may just be a bad batch but that’s no excuse for a pistol costing 300$.

With respect to fit, finish, and performance, this AP is an outstanding value at the AMAZON new price. My only caveat is that, if one buys it in

“like new” condition (as I did, at a considerable discount), it would be well to ensure that the piece has been scrupulously maintained. Though there was no visible pitting involved, removal of light rust from the bore and action was necessary. Fortunately, cocking, loading, and accuracy seem not to have been affected.

  4. The Gamo Compact compares very favorably to precision pistols costing many hundreds of dollars more. It is a single pump, low velocity target pistol. While the single pump takes some energy better NOT used during high level competition, the gun also does not require CO2 cartridges, or high pressure tanks for filling and shooting and is the ultimate in simplicity.

What this means is that instead of having to have a half truck load of support equipment for practice, I can pick the pistol up at any time and get down to training. The sights are adjustable and are quite good. For my personal preference, I had to widen the rear notch slightly, but those types of “adjustments” are common and individualistic. The pistol is quiet as well, which allows me to practice at home at any time of the day and not disturb my family or “the guy who looks over the back fence” (as my wife often imagines).

The trigger, out of the box, is excellent. It is also adjustable both in weight and in trigger position.

Totally aside from using it as my main (pistol) practice piece, I’ve come to rely on it as a control piece for the manifold ballistics experimentation and photography I do. The ease and reliability of operation, in conjunction with the very clean lines and low and consistent velocity of the pistol make it one of my more valuable tools in that realm of use.

Given the price and quality of this air pistol, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent trainer or even a beginning competition pistol. It would be very difficult to go wrong with this one.
